The friendliness of the staff has been what we really like most - they are very welcoming and with our situation we had to get our loved one moved in fairly quickly and they just put their arms around her. They were very understanding and more then accommodating. Compared to other assisted living communities in the area it is a good price and we would definitely recommend this community to other families.

What we really like about this community is that we can pick up the phone, give them a call and there is always someone on the other side to pick up. If the individual we need to speak with is busy, we can leave a message and they get back to us in a timely manner. We like that our loved one does not have to go out for anything, they bring in all different doctors for the residents. We would absolutely recommend this community to other families.

We toured Potomac Place and it was much smaller and intimate than other communities we visited. If I were being placed, I would be happy to be there. However, my loved one thought it was too small. They decorated the community in dark green; which felt cozy to me, but for my husband it felt claustrophobic.

We visited several places before choosing Tall Oaks, and overall we're very satisfied. I think my loved one needs more care than the average person, which is why it's so expensive. But the staff is very attentive and very friendly. The facility is clean. It's conveniently located for visiting. I would like to see the food be fresher. Some of it's okay, but a lot of it tastes like cardboard.

They have been very up front in this community. Right now they are on lock down and the meals are being delivered to the residents. Due to how far away my loved one is the meals come warm. It would be nice if they could rotate and maybe serve the other rooms first so that they can receive hot meals. They offer a lot of activities but my loved one has not participated much. I would suggest that someone come to the door to get the residents due to him forgetting about the activities.

Our family had an in person tour and the tour was okay, we definitely kept this as a consideration but we just liked another community better. It was nice, it still felt homey and the workers were very nice.'

I was extremely pleased with this community. I didn't care for the memory care unit at Potomac Place. Overall, it is a good place. We moved my loved one out of the community. I believe there could be changes in the memory care unit.

To no fault of their own, but because of COVID and how it is being handled there have been some constraints, getting tests and PPE's have become difficult. They do a good job keeping this community clean, as well as a good job being as accommodating to the residents as they can. They took safety and health as a number one priority which was very important to us. We have found the staff members to be very responsive to the families and the families needs during this time, as well as giving help to our loved one. They respond in a great timely manner which helps put us at ease. Initially in the beginning of COVID their were no activities, but after awhile the staff started doing one on one time with the residents and they would have puzzles or small arts and crafts. Now they have bingo, live music, stretching and exercise classes, various arts and crafts they can do in small groups as well as movie nights all while maintaining social distancing. They even cook s'mores on Sunday's. They have now started to open things up and we are allowed to visit our loved ones but have to do it outside. Our loved one has a beautiful one bedroom apartment, it is very nice. the food is okay, during the lock down the residents had to eat in their rooms. Now they have started opening up lunch and dinner in the dining room, and soon they should be going back to their normal routine

My parents live together in one of the Tall Oaks apartments. My mother has dementia, and my father is her primary caregiver, so we have not needed higher levels of nursing care -- yet. Tall Oaks is a family operation with a friendly and experienced staff of relatively long average tenure. The facility is essentially a six-level apartment building, and community facilities are more packed-together than some of the more grandiose properties in the area. Costs run a bit below the high-end facilities -- but not a lot below. The apartments are pleasant and relatively spacious for an all-assisted living property. Residents tend toward the more senior end of the spectrum compared with some of the other facilities we visited. Activities are frequent and well-organized. Visits by doctors, eyecare specialists, audiologists, etc. are also frequent. My parents report that the food is good, but tends to get pretty same-same after a while (that may be true everywhere). Tall Oaks is near lots of shopping and restaurants in Reston, but only by car (many residents still drive, and Tall Oaks runs shuttles). The location is suburban, and a recently demolished shopping center across the parking lot from the entrance is about to become several dozen homes, so construction noise and traffic will be a fact of life for the next couple of years. This does mean there are some deals to be had for potential new residents, but as Tall Oaks has relatively low vacancy rates, don't expect big bargains.

I was able to get a tour of this community and I did like it. I just knew that it wouldn't work out for us though. The community is to big and really not what I was looking for. The staff also said that when my loved one got worse that they could not help even though they are a community for this. However, the staff was great and super helpful.

It's an older facility. The staff seem very friendly. The rooms are smaller and the tenant needs to supply their own furniture which can be challenging if it is a short tem stay.

Overall things have gone well with Tall Oaks Assisted Living! I think they have some great services here, and Dad seems very pleased with the food! It is a big transition, going from independent to assisted living, and they do a great job here helping to ease that transition. One thing I think they could do a bit better with is communication with family members. It feels like we are usually the ones that have to initiate conversations about how our loved one is doing. But overall it is all working out fine, and we are pleased with this community!

Nice place, a bit far out. Rooms on the small side, but could work if they can get one with the kitchenette and work up to a larger unit at some point.

We had originally moved my mother in law up from another location in Virginia so she could be closer to us, originally it was in the assisted living section but then certain things happened that we were required to move her into the secured unit at Tall Oaks fairly quickly and because of that we moved her. I think the assisted lviing section was very good and the memory care section, the secured floor, for someone who is much more advanced in their dementia, I think was very good, but their program was geared towards helping and maintaining their level of dementia but we felt she didn't fit in. They did not have a wander guard system in their assisted living and she wasn't advanced enough to be in their secured floor so we moved her.

This one's really nice, it's set up very similar to Tall Oaks. The food is actually really good, they had a little bit of both cafeteria style and if they had a special they might do it to order and they had a salad bar people really seemed to like. Where you went to eat was a big sun room was there was a lot of light and it felt really open. Metro Access doesn't go to Woodbridge and that was the dealbreaker because we couldn't get her to her docotos appointment without it, it would have been a full time job.
