Don’t Judge a Book by its Cover
My mother has been a resident at HarborChase for 18 months. They have consistently not been able to provide services they advertise providing as part of their care. She’s gone at least a month without her apartment being cleaned, Her bed is frequently not made, it took at least 10 months to get them to fix the thermostat in her room. When it is windy out you can hear the wind whistling through her bathroom vent, and her curtains blowing in because of the poor building construction. They call the med techs “care partners” but they really do little more than pass out meds. They have not established a “ relationship” with her after being a resident for 18 months, That being said, the activity director is Fabulous! the “ beautification specialist” is also fabulous! I get more feedback from them than I do the “care partners.” Good variety of activities, but for the size of community, not much participation.

Harbor Chase is a beautiful facility but for me the caregiver it seemed too cold. Staff was friendly. It is a larger facility. It felt more like a hotel environment rather than the homey environment we were looking for.

So happy we found them
My mom lived at another community and it was not living up to the promises. HarborChase of Southlake has been an answered prayer. Mom has made friends, loves the meal options. I love that she is being cared for, her pendant is answered and the caregivers are trained and very attentive.

Our family had an in person tour and this community is like living in a very luxurious resort. People were having fun playing bingo and poker, and they have nice sized apartments. However it is exceptionally expensive, and the issue we saw is if you have mobility issues you will definitely need a scooter to live here. Even just walking to the dining room you have to walk down big long hallways and use elevators. The residents do have the option to eat in the high end restaurant which is beautiful but only for a certain amount of "points" per month.

Peak under the hood before you sign the lease
We like the location, it is close to our family as well as the newness of the community. It is beautifully decorated, very clean and the staff members are friendly. However they could make some improvements with their leadership team, it was quite dysfunctional from the get go from the initial move in, to the billing department, to their maintenance team. They have also had a lot of turnover rates.

Took very good care of our loved one
We chose HarborChase of Southlake because we had used them in the past and had a really good experience. The room sizes here are very nice and spacious. They were excellent with communication since we were not able to go inside and visit with our loved one. In the beginning the food was delicious, when she moved into memory care it was not the same. I think it is a lovely place, they have a conducive atmosphere to home living and it is just a beautiful comfortable place to be in. I would absolutely recommend them.

Lacking...Communication, Compassion & Concern!
I want to help anyone that has to go through this difficult milestone of selecting an Assisted Living place for a parent. This was truly one of the hardest decisions of my life knowing how, when, where and what to look for during the selection. If I had written this review for Harbor Chase Southlake 1 ½ years ago it would have been a 5 star review; but today’s Harbor Chase is NOT the Harbor Chase we selected for my Mother 2 ½ years ago! Do you know when you hold somewhere is such a high regard (deservedly so), but then they disappoint you so much that it hurts…that is the case with Harbor Chase Southlake! In the beginning when the property was less than six months old, we moved my Mother into Harbor Chase Southlake… it was immaculate, professionally managed and the employees, food and amenities were of the highest caliber which was an answer to our prayers! The top management at that time (Director and the Director of Resident Care) were very professional, involved, highly visible, knew all of the residents and families by name and cared about the welfare of their residents. I can honestly say that the personnel at Harbor Chase saved my Mom’s life more than once. I regularly shared my experiences and highly recommended Harbor Chase to friends, other families when touring the property and my mother’s doctors who were so impressed with her care. Then the top management changed (Director, the Director of Resident Care and the Business Manager) and then things began to take a downward spiral in almost every aspect that once had made Harbor Chase a remarkable treasure. Management now exclusively resides in their offices, are very unapproachable and uninvolved. Other contributors to the downward spiral consist of: the very high employee turn-over rate, the caliber of the new hires and the slow or non-existent communication to residents and families. These sad changes were happening before the quarantine, but I just worked around the situation by communicating more closely with the “worker-bee angels” or handling things myself. Again, I want to reiterate that the front-line personnel consisting of the healthcare workers, culinary and other staff members are fantastic! I cannot extend my appreciation and gratitude enough to these individuals because they loved and cared for my Mom when I could only do it from afar during this difficult time. I wish I could name every employee by name that cared so lovingly for my Mother, but I know I would forget some names that deserve to be recognized. Writing this review is absolutely NOT the way I wanted to be heard or resolve my complaints; I tried to quietly and professionally handle this situation by sending letters & an email to HRA corporate, but I got no response so I decided that the problem was not just a local management concern, but a HRA corporate culture issue. I had been forewarned by another resident’s family member, that corporate was not concerned with any complaints because the bottom-line was strong at this property. I had sincerely hoped that she was wrong and that this was frustration and misinformation speaking… because as we all know, the way you deal with people’s lives and well-being will show-up on your bottom-line! There were several specific situations that occurred right before and after my Mom passed away that prompted my original letter to HRA corporate. I am so disappointed in HRA corporate’s lack of communication, compassion and concern; I guess as long as their bottom-line is strong, they too can reside in their ivory towers, be uninvolved and hope the next resident will accept mediocrity. We entrusted our most cherished possession, our Mother, to Harbor Chase’s care and I thought Harbor Chase’s mission was to value people’s needs over their own convenience and desperate profitability! My dealings are complete with Harbor Chase Southlake, but hopefully my observations can be of use to others.

Very Disappointed
My mother moved in to Harbor Chase in 2018 when it was a new facility. The Director and the head of patient care couldn't have been better. After the facility began to fill up there was a change in Management that had built a wonderful assisted living community. The new management fired countless people who had developed friendships with the residents and took their time to replace these workers to save labor costs for the weeks they were recruiting and hiring the replacements. Luckily, we had a camera in my Mother's apartment so we could monitor their visits especially during Covid. Numerous times we would have to call and request that they wake, dress and feed Mother which were services she was paying for. The Director doesn't know the residents by name and doesn't care. Mother recently passed away and their lack of compassion during her last days were incomprehensible. They charged us for everyday her belongings were in the room after her passing. After getting her things out of her apartment and taking it to storage, the only thing left in her apartment were oxygen tanks that needed to be picked up by the oxygen company. They continued to charge us for 5 extra days because they refused to store the oxygen tanks in a closet or somewhere until they could be picked up. We wrote a letter to their President and several other executives with no response. Mind you, this was not so much about the money as it was about their lack of concern, sympathy and even interest in hearing about our experience. Most C suite executives have the professional integrity to want to protect their reputation so that reviews such a this are not published. Needless to say, Southlake is a small high income community that share their experiences so businesses can either thrive or die. Time will tell.

Lovely place
I visited Harbor Chase with with best friend to visit her mother. This place is amazing. Everyone is very friendly and always has a smile on their face. My friend was telling me that there was recently a change in management. She stated that it was needed change because things were not getting done. I asked her mother what she liked that best about her home, she stated activities. She told that the ED climbed on the roof to fix the AC unit on one Sunday. I was impressed to hear how wonderful this is. I will be sure to tell my friends about Harborchase of Southlake.

The memory unit is having issues. Residents are not being checked regularly, laundry is not being done, staff needs to improve. Management does not seem to respond to concerns that are brought to their attention. More staff and better training are necessary.

Needs better management
Things are not running the way they were in the past. There has been a turnover in staff leading to problems. The cove area has one washer and dryer for the whole unit (30 residents) and we have had constant assurances that more will be installed but nothing happens. The ratio of caregivers to residents is not met and especially affects the residents during meals. The building is visually lovely but it does not reflect the quality of the facility.
