Horrible facility
DON'T, DON'T put anyone you care for here. My husband was sent for impatient rehab. The staff and nurses except for one were rude, lazy, and uncaring. Admin were unresponsive to complaints. Food was inedible. The therapists though were nice and capable.

DO NOT PUT YOUR LOVED ONE HERE!!!
PLEASE DO NOT PUT YOUR LOVED ONE IN THIS FACILITY!!! My "father in law" was 83 years old and came to this rehab facility after having a laryngectomy. I wish we had heeded the warning signs. They took dad to a doctor's appt. that we had already canceled and we didn't even know about it until his roommate told us. He would lay in feces. His food came out too big for him to eat. His stoma was dislodged and I had to put it back in his throat. Nurses would not look up to acknowledge you, if you were lucky enough to find one.. Most of the time it felt like you were bothering them to get them to do anything. We visited him every Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday night, but were rarely told anything about him even though we had his power of attorney. He was supposed to be receiving physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy to learn how to speak using an artificial larynx. He was starting to lose his memory before he had surgery and it was getting worse. We asked [name removed] numerous times for a mental capacity evaluation to be done and a letter to be written by the doctor as to dad's physical and mental abilities. During his 2 1/2 - 3 month stay we never saw or spoke with a doctor, dad never learned how to speak again, he became bedridden, ended up with UTI's, evidently stopped eating and doing therapy (so we were told the day before he passed away) and ended up dying. There were times that he needed to be changed and he would end up laying in his own feces for 30-45 minutes before someone would come and change him and he had an open sore on his bottom. (I don't want to know how long he would lay there when we weren't there.) He ended up with a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI). Then it seemed like it was clearing up with antibiotics until he got another one. He was in so much pain the weekend before he died that I had to ask the nurse to give him pain medicine and she said it was probably from the UTI and that they would take a sample on Monday to confirm. On Monday night we were told that it would take a couple of days to get the results back. On Wednesday, my boyfriend got a call that insurance would only cover dad for about another month and then we would have to pay about $9,000.00 a month. On Wednesday night he was started on antibiotics around 5 p.m. On Thursday my boyfriend got a call from the physician's assistant saying that they wanted to evaluate dad for hospice. She said that dad had been refusing to eat and had been refusing to do therapy. (We had never been told this, otherwise we could have changed our schedule and got dad to cooperate more.) My boyfriend asked about the letter from the doctor and the mental capacity evaluation that we had been requesting for court for several weeks and she said that was the first she was hearing about it and she was the one that writes those letters. He advised her that he could never get [name removed] to call him back to follow up. After my boyfriend and I discussed the hospice evaluation, we decided to wait and give the antibiotics a chance to work since he had only been on them for one day. When we got home from work on Friday (09-13-2019) we were discussing moving dad out of this facility. Then a nurse called to say that dad had fully coded and that they may have broken a couple of ribs doing CPR when they brought him back. We rushed to the facility about 5 minutes away to find no one (other than his roommate) in the room with him. I started talking to him and he looked at me, but he was not really coherent. After a couple of minutes a nurse came in and was talking about DNR paperwork. I asked if they had called 911 and she said, "Do you want me to?" I replied, "Uh, yeah." (Like, duh, I would have thought that would have been done when he initially coded, but I guess not.) I packed his things while waiting on EMS because I knew that no matter what, he was not returning to this place. He died at the hospital. His cause of death...SEPSIS. They also listed malnutrition. (How does that happen??Why didn't they put him back on a feeding tube??)

Need To Be Closed Down
My grandmother stays at this facility. Since she has been there it has changed hands 3 times and each time the place gets worse. I was talking with the laundry girl about my grandmother clothing and the area was full from floor to ceiling and all over the floor. The place reek of odors. Three weeks ago, there was some white lady and black man out in the front of the building having sexual relations. This place is not fit for a dog. Oh and don't get me started on the large roaches. I can not believe that state let this place stays open. The state just do not give a crap about these people. I see some of the workers constantly trying to do the best and the others doing absolutely nothing. And they are always, always working short. ALWAYS. I am seriously thinking about going to the news people, that's how bad it is.

Poor services
Please beware of this facility. The service that is provided here is extremely poor. The lead nursing staff, administrative, and admissions team have no compassion for individuals that require immediate attention and the proper medical care that meet their needs. I have experienced a horrible incident that concerned my loved one's treatment in the hands of healthcare staff, which caused him complications that put him at high risk of death. The follow-up was never implemented, and I never received a phone call of concern or apologies from anyone concerning the unprofessional treatment that was provided. This facility needs to be shut down immediately to prevent other families from submitting to honest care from this nasty mess!

A Place for Mom has scored River Pointe Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center 1 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
