Ivy Park at West Hills review
We give the value for cost a 4 1/2 (it's not inexpensive, but I don't know how much other places cost to compare). I'm so pleased with Ivy Park and everyone that works there is so kind and caring. And most importantly, my mom is happy! Based on the experience we have had so far, we would definitely recommend this community to other families.

Short but sweet. Aunt Pat passed away 3 weeks after moving into Ivy Park.
Ivy Park was so wonderful and caring. Yheyvtried very hard to include aunt pat into the community. Little did anyone know she would pass away too soon to enjoy everything that was offered. While she was there, she used the hair salon, enjoyed the dining room and her comfortable room. She was able to have her dog with her and that was a good thing.

Experience at Ivy Park
Staff was friendly and took good care of my Mom and were responsive when we had questions or requested assistance. The move in process went smoothly. My mom's room was always very clean. I would recommend the facility. The one recommendation is to provide more reports to the family. We were told during the tour that we would be given updates re my mom, things she did, issues etc. While the staff provided information, we were the ones who had to request the info, if we didn't ask we didn't really receive updates re how my mom was doing (eg how much she was eating).

Our experience at Sunrise
The only thing I feel that could improve is the quality and selection of food/meals. It felt more in line with high school cafeteria food than home cooking or restaurant style. After having eaten there with my mother several times, I felt there was not enough healthy options available.

Best decision for my aunt.
They are very helpful. When my aunt has an issue they call, and they do a weekly update of her health ( weight, blood pressure and behavior). They make sure she is engaged with the other residents. I feel so much relief of the pressure I was dealing with.

Lacking
When I talk to my friend, she tells me she's bored. They offer bingo and exercises, but in general, I don't feel they offer enough for seniors to do. During the touring process, we were under the impression they had more outings and events, and they do not. I don't hear her complain about the care though.

Beautiful
My mom is in the memory care. They do have a great activities program overall. It is a beautiful location, great parking for guests. Very elaborate check-in system, must wear a mask, have your vaccination card to check into the memory care facility. The beginning was a little confusing as they have different levels of care options, it was a challenge but once the staffing helped us through those it was a nice smooth process.

We had a pretty good tour experience with Sunrise of West Hills, but nothing really stuck out to me. It looked like a nice place and the staff were all good with their follow up after the fact. Our Tour Experience
We had a virtual tour, which made it difficult to get an accurate feel for the community. But ultimately, we didn’t care for their cost setup / how they break down the fees. They only had three tiers for different levels of care, and we preferred itemized billing for each aspect so you're not paying for things you're not receiving. Especially because each person has their own unique, individual set of needs.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Tour the location: Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services: Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the California regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about California regulations for Assisted Living.

A Place for Mom has scored Ivy Park at West Hills 9 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
