My loved one was a resident at The Homestead. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this facility to others. The facility needs an upgrade.

There are certain things I liked about it. My loved one complains about the food, they say that it is the same thing over and over again. The taste isn't there as well. I'm not sure how often the house cleaners are changing the sheets for my loved one. [name removed] is very nice and she is the one who runs the community. Due to COVID we are paying the same amount that we were prior to the pandemic. All my loved one is getting is three meals, sitting in their room, or in the outside garden. It is a good thing they are being cautious on the pandemic in my opinion. Everything is an extra cost. I've been told that the medication is given at 7 pm and then the residents aren't allowed to come out of their rooms. The community is in a very pretty area.

We've had some issues with The Homestead. The biggest one is how hard it is to communicate with them regarding issues involving your loved one. If you call them to discuss an issue they'll put you through to the relevant person's voicemail, and you'll never hear back from them. It's almost impossible to get a hold of someone directly. They make changes to my loved one's care that I don't like, and I'm always the last to hear about it.

My biggest anxiety is that I don't have my medications. They keep them and only give them at meal times. When I am away and not at meals, even when I tell them in advance that I will be away, it is hard to get my medications in advance. I know why they have daily routine but that is not my lifestyle. Especially since I retired, I have my meals when hungry, not at specific times. I wish I had a kitchen so I could make my own meals. The food here is pretty tasteless. At least I have a refrigerator so that I can have my coffee yogurt. I have an active life and everything is in Manhattan, even when taking Greyhound to Cleveland (very often) or train to Philadelphia or to visit family. It takes a long time to get to or from Manhattan.

My loved one stayed here briefly and I was not impressed by the facility or by the care provided. The place just seemed kind of run down to me, and the staff were not as present as I think they should have been. It isn't somewhere I would recommend.

The Homestaed was a nice place and centrally located to transportation and shops. My client does not like this place, the rooms are smaller.

The only staff member that was professional, helpful and knowledgeable was the receptionist, they were amazing. The other staff members would be a three out of five stars, we felt like at times they were very condescending. We did not have a good experience with this community. The food was not good, it was very dis-satisfying. Some of our loved ones clothes were stolen by other residents. We did not feel like we got our money's worth. The kitchen staff would be a one out of five stars, one day our loved one found a fly in his food. However, for his doctor appointments they were good about communicating to us what time his appointments were and when he was going to be picked up. The location is the only thing we liked about this community. It was in forest hill and it wasn't to far from where we lived.

The problem my mother is having is she is with a roommate that snores and half the rooms are on the train tracks so even if they move her it would be noisy. Basically she hasn't slept since she's been there and she doesn't like the food. It is just not a great fit for my mother.

Do not want to give this place 1 star. [name removed] was great at first until my mother arrived at the facility. No one on site to discuss her necessary medications, the establishment was dirty, the handrailing's in the hallway were coming off the wall. No one came to bathe or give her food. This establishment was such a disappointment, which we expected to be a relief. This establishment was unsafe for my mother which she needs 24/7 care. By Sunday, we took her out. We paid $[removed] for a 3 day stay. We requested a refund from [name removed], he stated he had to pay rent and blocked my number. This experience was so unfortunate and despicable. DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES TO THIS Establishment!

I did not like The Homestead when we toured, when we walked in it just felt like the residents were in prison. It had a dark and depressing atmosphere and the rooms needed some major updating. The facility is is a nice area but there was also not much room inside or outside for the residents to roam around.

Looking at the exterior of the building it would be about a three out of five, and looking in the interior of the building it would be about a 2.5 out of five. The staff there seemed unprofessional and the communication was lacking right from the beginning. Being that we lived out of town from where our loved one was, we constantly set up zoom meetings to speak with the medical staff and administrator and no one would ever show up which was odd since we would give them ample notice. With our loved ones health we wanted to know what to expect and it was difficult at times working with the staff members.

My 90yr old mom had a sugar count of 600. She is not getting tested to see what her sugar is and given her Diabetic medicine(??) WHY? She has fallen several times there. This time it was because there was no aid to help go to the toilet. She has gained a lot of weight from high carb , high sugar & high fat foods. She was robbed of her jewelry there. Several diamond rings are gone. She had to get clothes from her apartment and was robbed there. Every draw was opened to look for her valuables. She had gold chains with gold & diamond peices/charms that are gone. White gold chain with diamond & pearl pendant, diamond bracelets. They took it all. Diamond rings & diamond bracelets are gone. All of her jewelry was cleaned out by thief's that work for the Belvedere. She had brand new cardigans sweater sets with tags, & packable down jacket that are missing. Don't send your relatives to this place. They claim that they didn't know that my mom was a Diabetic. I am totally disgusted with these criminals

The Belvedere could not evaluate him properly because of covid. I am not sure what they documented, so when my father was transferred, although they were very affordable it did not work out and you get what you pay for. Everything in the beginning seemed great. I live out of state, so I told them communication was imperative. The communication from the staff members was not good and it is impossible to get a hold of anyone. He had to go to the hospital with a bad wound that they had not told me about and doctors noticed he was malnourished and was extremely over medicated. Overall, this facility failed my father and his leg had to be amputated. When I went to get my dads things, they handed us items that were not his and some of his things were missing.

My husband was a resident here for 2+ years and our experience was very unpleasant. Most of the staff was uncaring and unresponsive. He was not well-cared for and I was trying to get him out before he died, but he wound up dying there. It always felt like he was a body they could make money off of and were not responsive or concerned with his or my needs. Many of his possessions were [Removed]. I wish he had spent his last days in a better place.

Williams first roomate urinated on the carpet and at times William. I filed a complaint with the city in 2012, after numerous compaints to management. I asked for William to be walked and have physical therapy to make him stronger nothing was provided till 2015 then it was to late. Many-times I or a family member visited William looked disheveled. I sent numerous emails to have his hair and nails cut. Residents bathroom by cafeteria was covered with feces. I have a picture dated 6/22/15 of a male resident with a long bib and a gag in his mouth. William was hopitlized three times in 2015 for falling out of bed, knocking into something. Last time he never returned to the Homestead. He had bedsores and a UTI. He passed four months latter. Why you ask I did not remove William from the Homestead it also had positives one the best activity director. The location the facility itself was a nice old hotel. It needs an update with carpet and furniture, the cafetria needs to be remodeled very depressing. The rooms sparse but adequate, the aids seemed helpful and friendly when I was there. The monthly cost was in Williams budget this is a major factor. I went to numorous faciltys the cost, the facility, location was very disappointing. The Homestead was not the best but not the worst if your parent is with it mentally. If not keep them home and get aids. I did this his last three months, or hire your own aids for the facility if money allows.
