Ask Questions
I wrote a review several months ago and see it has been removed. I am not real pleased with this facility but I don't think many are pleasing. My mother has resided here 2 years and has had money stolen out of her purse twice, a ring taken right off her finger, several times she has had bruises to which no one knew anything about how they happened and always tried to blame my mother. She is totaly dependent so hard for me to think she could cause large bruises on her arms, or her legs because she is in a wheel chair. Many of her clothing is gone. The food is pretty bad. They only serve water or tea with meals, never milk. They give her a shower once a week. They would put 2 diapers on her at a time until we told them to stop. She lost a lot of weight in a short amount of time. One time when I visited they had her in her room for lunch instead of in the dinning room and her tray of food was set out of reach. I called the girl in to show her and she said she must have wheeled herself back. Impossible, her wheels were locked on her wheel chair and she doesn't have the strength to roll herself anywhere. They don't brush her teeth and she has had to have 2 teeth pulled from decay. We decided to get hospice involved for better care and they increased the rent $400.00. Hospice is free. They also claimed they use only 1 Hospice when in fact it is 100% your choice who you choose to use. No other facility increases the rent when you have hospice. I called 8 and not 1 increased rent. There are a few people who have been there a while that I like and trust but that is the only positive thing I can say about this facility.

Nurses without licenses
I would like to know why they employ staff with expired or no medical licenses. Does management not keep up with the legality of practicing nursing of any kind? I made sure to get the name of the nurse taking care of my grandmother and I did my research, her nursing license expired back in 2012!!! Why the hell is this facility letting her take care of our family members?! You can bet your [profanity removed]I'll be calling whoever I need to call to get this matter handled! No license, don't touch my grandmother nurse [name removed]!!

Nice facility but $500 more than shown on the price list through A Place for Mom and cost increases as the needs increase. They do not provide basic cable and not many residents out for a Saturday afternoon. Only 3 caregivers on day shift for 50-55 residents? Would definitely recommend talking to someone other than the activity director !! Place was clean and nice, but chilly.

A Different Layout
I had a good tour with this community and found that it had a funny layout to the community. Nothing was wrong but I didn't like it. Otherwise the person who showed us through the community did a fine job and treated us with kindness.

Castle Rock is a great place to live!
Castle Rock has a friendly, homelike atmosphere. The staff seems genuinely concerned about the residents, and the residents seem content there. Price is quite reasonable, and Castle Rock offers one and two bedroom apartments as well as studio accommodations. Management is on-site and quite accommodating to residents and their families. Castle Rock has been a blessing to our loved one and to our family.

Safe community!
The community has doors that lock in the evenings and they have a pull alarm in the shower in case of emergencies. The community has a very spacious and open dining room. The staff do a great job of reminding the residents of meals 20 minutes beforehand. The nursing staff does a great job administering medications as required by the patients. The staff are supposed to come in to help my loved one with showers three times a week and at times they only come once. The night shift on the weekends is very light on staff, only one person is available to assist.

I love Castle Rock!
For us, Castle Rock gives more than we expected from an assisted living community. My loved one is satisfied with the food. The activities are being enjoyed. There is a square and court that residents can enjoy. The owner and the administrator seem to have it together and give their lives to this community. I love Castle Rock!

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Tour the location: Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services: Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the Texas regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about Texas regulations for Assisted Living.
